Jones-Sawyer Secures Endorsement from CA Nurses Association

Major Statewide Powerhouse Union Picks Jones-Sawyer for the 59th AD

LOS ANGELES, CA— The California Nurses Association (CNA) today threw their weight, and full endorsement, behind Reggie Jones-Sawyer’s campaign to fill California’s new 59th Assembly District seat.

“When making our decisions about candidates to support for Assembly, we carefully consider a candidate’s record and their support for the issues we care most about—like universal healthcare, support for the nurse-to-patient-ratio, along with the many progressive values that we hold near and dear,” said Malinda Markowitz, Co-President of the California Nurses Association (CNA). “We are confident that Reggie Jones-Sawyer will be a leader in the fight to provide all Californians quality and affordable healthcare, while at the same time making sure patients get the care they need by ensuring adequate nurse staffing levels. That’s why we are pleased to endorse Reggie Jones-Sawyer’s campaign for State Assembly.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the support and endorsement that the California Nurses Association has bestowed on my campaign,” said Jones-Sawyer. “If elected to the State Assembly, I’ll be a tireless advocate for universal healthcare, and I’ll work to move California to a single-payer system, in order to ensure that everyone in our state gets the healthcare they need.”

Beyond today’s endorsement, Jones-Sawyer has also picked up a number of powerful endorsements from elected leaders, including: former Congresswoman Diane Watson, Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Congresswoman Laura Richardson, State Senator Alex Padilla, State Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod, State Assemblyman Isadore Hall, State Assemblyman Steve Bradford, State Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes, State Assemblyman Ricardo Lara, State Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas, Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks, Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz, and Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel.

Additionally, Jones-Sawyer has racked up a significant list of endorsements from influential labor groups including: UNITE HERE Local 11, Laborers (LiUNA) Local 300 & Local 777, Communications Workers of America (CWA) Southern California Council, UA Local 78 Plumbers, Teamsters Joint Council 42, National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 24, Los Angeles Professional Managers Association, Los Angeles General Services Police Officers Association, and the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers’ Association.

The new 59th Florence-Graham District includes many of the same neighborhoods in the former 48th Assembly District.
